EDURISK has issued several booklets, brochures and DVDs. Though primarily meant for use within the EDURISK learning experience, all these materials can also be provided to the general public as a well-tested source of reliable, easily accessible information on all topics related to seismic and volcanic risk. All are available in Italian, and some of them in other languages too.
Among the EDURISK publications there are a few (the Teacher’s Guide “Se arriva il terremoto", and the collection of learning activities “A prova di terremoto"), especially designed as a technical support for teachers involved in the EDURISK testing programme. The compilation of these booklets was a result of the interaction between the EDURISK team and the teachers involved in the earliest phase of EDURISK tools testing: the school projects developed by the teachers and classes involved in the EDURISK experience have been fed back to the EDURISK educational tool factory, contributing to the development of new EDURISK products.
The special issues “Terremoti: come e perché” are monographical pamphlets, each devoted to one Italian region, which provide an overview of historical and recent seismicity, seismic hazard and seismic risk at the regional level.
The DVD “Terremoti e città fantasma in Sicilia” (Earthquakes and ghost-towns of Sicily) is a multimedial product for the general public. The user is led into a virtual journey among towns and villages that were deserted by their citizen following some of the strongest historical earthquakes of Italy. The journey offers a chance to wander through the enduring material traces of natural events that left their marks in the Italian landscape and culture, retrieving forgotten sites and buried memories.
The DVD dedicated to the Sicilian ghost-towns is the first result of a long, painstaking effort of historical and iconographical research undertaken from the earliest phase of the EDURISK project. Far from stopping with the publication of the Sicilian DVD, this work is still going on. A new DVD dedicated to the ghost-towns of Calabria is about to be released. Further DVDs will extend the virtual itineraries through Italy’s seismic past to the whole peninsula. To this end, EDURISK has started a national census of earthquake-deserted sites, and other architectural, iconographic, epigraphic and cultural traces of past earthquakes (buildings, pictures, inscriptions, customs et cetera). Contributions to this census are very welcome: if you know of some place or item of li please click on ITINERARI and share your knowledge with us.
The books are available as low resolution .pdf files. To request free paper copies please fill the form or write to: EDURISK, Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, Sezione di Bologna, Via Donato Creti 12, 40128, Bologna.
